Hearing Loss

Hearing loss can be a difficult thing to deal with for those affected and their loved ones. Since hearing is so important to our communication and relationships, those impacted by hearing impairment can suffer greatly. The good news is that there is help. For many people, hearing aids can dramatically improve hearing, understanding and overall communication.

Types of Hearing Loss


Conductive hearing loss is typically caused by an obstruction in the middle or outer ear. This can be something that is temporary (like a blockage of earwax) or permanent (like a deformity or problem with the tympanic membrane).


A sensorineural hearing loss (also known as nerve deafness) is where the nerve cells in the inner ear no longer function correctly. The most common type of hearing loss, sensorineural hearing loss is typically caused by aging (presbycusis), noise exposure, ototoxic medications or illness and illness .

Causes of Hearing Loss

The following is a list of possible causes of hearing loss. A person experiencing hearing difficulties could have a number of these factors contributing to their impairment.
